Our strong storm system continues Thursday with a high wind warning up for our valley until 10 p.m. It’ll be extremely windy with 50-60+ mph gusts in the wind-prone areas, like the foothills, North Valleys and the Washoe and Carson valleys.

Look out for possible flight delays, downed trees and power lines, and secure everything outdoors. Valley rain and heavy mountain snow showers will keep going through this evening.

The strong winds will drive a cold front into the region and our rain showers will switch back over to snow on our valley floors by this afternoon and evening.

Snow showers continue into the Friday morning commute with a few inches possible in Reno and several inches for our foothills and north valleys.

Another cold front moves in on Friday and that will keep the snow showers going in the mountains with more heavy snow there and chain controls will be likely on and off through the weekend.

Our valleys will also hang on to a chance for snow showers that will last into early next week, and we turn colder again with highs only in the 30s for Saturday and Sunday.

You can check www.nvroads.com for the latest chain controls.
