A blizzard heading toward Iowa prompts officials to close I-80 in Nebraska

Blizzard circumstances in south-central to southeastern Nebraska have led to a number of crashes and prompted officials to close a one hundred twenty-mile stretch of Interstate 80 within the state.

The Nebraska State Patrol says I-eighty has been closed in both instructions from Grand Island to Gretna, just southwest of Omaha.

The patrol says troopers and first responders are coping with several crashes alongside that stretch of interstate, together with a pileup of dozens of semitrailers and automobiles near Waverly just east of Lincoln.

The Nationwide Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for a swath that stretches from south-central Nebraska over the southeastern nook into western Iowa.
