The Salina Liberty Indoor football team announced the signing of two defensive backs and a defensive lineman today.
Marrion Holmes, a defensive lineman from De Funiak Springs, Fla., attended college at the University of West Georgia. During his senior year, Holmes racked up 36 tackles – 12 solo and 24 assisted – and 2.5 sacks.
“Holmes is physical enough to take on double teams and be stout on the run but athletic enough to beat you with quickness in the pass rush game,” said head coach Heron O’Neal. “He disengages from offensive lineman with great use of his hands.”
Eric Johnson played defensive back at Division II Rockford College in Illinois. Johnson spent last season with the Dodge City Law registering 39 tackles- 24 solo and 15 assists- to go along with two interceptions.
“Eric has great technique and speed,” said coach O’Neal. “He works extremely hard on the field and in the film room. He’s a very important piece of our secondary.”
The Liberty also signed defensive back Kivar Thurman. Following high school, Thurman attended Dean University before transferring to Delaware University at the beginning of his junior season. Thurman started playing for Coach O’Neal last year with the Dodge City Law.
“Thurman came in late in the season, but he played well on defense and special teams,” coach O’Neal said. “He plays well against the pass and the run and will be an asset to our defensive secondary.”
