Dorothy Lucille (Haas) Helmer


Dorothy Lucille (Haas) Helmer went to her heavenly home 12/13/17. She received Jesus as her personal Savior and Lord in 1942 at age 17. She chose 2 Timothy 1:12 as her life verse, “…for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day”.

Dorothy, the 5th of 7 children, born 6/7/1925 to Henry A. Haas and Pauline Matilda (Reichert) Haas in McPherson County Kansas.

On January 1, 1946 she was united in marriage to John Victor Helmer in Marion, Kansas. They were married 57 years, 10 months, 23 days when he left for his heavenly home on 10/23/03.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, 5 siblings Lillie, Elsie, Reuben, Bernice, and Harvey, her infant son Steven Duane, and her husband John.

Survivors include 4 daughters Donna Jean and Ron Robertson of Kingsport, TN. Verna Lucille Rowe of Newton, KS. Roxann and Martin Colborn of Newton, KS. Doreen Joy and Byron Hartzler of Wichita, KS. 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. A sister Doris Mae (Haas) Liggett. Nieces, nephews, and friends.

Dorothy was an active member of Meridian Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school. She also taught Backyard Bible School in Marion, KS.  Dorothy enjoyed working with her hands making and painting wood crafts, crocheting, and quilting. She was a CNA, CMA, and physical therapy assistant for over 25 years at Newton Presbyterian Manor.
